Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Louisville District selected Satterfield & Pontikes Construction to build a new Army Reserve Center (ARC) in north Houston. The new facility provides state of-the-art training facilities for Army reserve members from Houston and the surrounding area.
The centerpiece of the 83,000-square-foot project is the ARC training building. The new facilities are constructed of reinforced concrete foundations and floor slabs, structural steel frames, masonry veneer walls and standing seam metal roof.
Scope of work includes:
• Construction of 37,000 SF training building, 16,000 SF maintenance shop and unheated storage building
• The maintenance shop provides several bays for repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment. It includes a crane with a 10-ton capacity that spans 90 feet.
• The two-level ARC training building includes classrooms, offices, weapons vault, locker rooms, and assembly hall with kitchen
• Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection physical security measures include exterior blastproof glass and high-strength, blast-proof concrete and CMU walls
• New HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, security and electrical systems
• Paving, land clearing, fencing, general site improvements and extension of utilities

The project is registered Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver for New Construction v2.2. Eco-friendly components include solar tubes that maximize usage of natural light and reduce energy consumption as well as canopies with solar panels that produce electricity. The project includes many additional ‘green’ elements, including site sustainability, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, and indoor environmental quality components. S&P set up a Building Information Modeling (BIM) virtual studio at the project site to assist in coordination and clash detection for mechanical, electrical and plumbing
components and systems.
