Sam's Club

Corpus Christi, TX

Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc.

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. selected Satterfi eld & Pontikes Construction to build a new Sam’s Club store and fuel center on a 12-acre site in Corpus Christi.

The project’s scope of work included:
• Demolition of an existing 20-year-old Wal-Mart store
• Construction of new structural steel and masonry Sam’s Club
• Storm water requirements with erosion controls
• Asphalt paving

To meet requirements for wind resistance in the hurricane-prone area, the building features stronger framing, connections, doors and wind bracing.

Environmental sensitivity, including recycling, was an important component of the project. The old asphalt parking lot was recycled, and concrete was diverted from landfi lls. In addition, the use of non-toxic building materials, including paints, coatings and adhesives that are low-emitting volatile organic compound (VOC) materials, help increase indoor air quality.
